In the morning, we will drive from Gondar to Debark, the headquarters of the national park. Here, we will stop to get permission for entry and meet the scout. A tea and coffee break will follow.
From Debark, we will drive 16 km to the park gate. Then, we will continue for another 6 km to Buit Ras, the first area of the national park. From there, we will trek for 3-4 hours to Chilkuwanit, one of the most beautiful viewpoints. This area offers stunning views of the escarpment, which drops vertically.
You will likely encounter troops of the endemic Gelada Baboons and have the chance to see them up close. Other wildlife, such as common jackals, klipspringers, and more, may also be visible.
Birdwatchers will enjoy seeing species like the Thick-billed Raven, Augur Buzzard, Black Kites, and Lammergeyer. The area also hosts a variety of plants, including the Abyssinian Rose, Erica Arboria tree, Euphorbia species, and St. John’s Worttree (Hypericum revolutum).
After the trek, our car will pick you up at Chilkuwanit and drive you back to Gondar.
